Elusive Escape: Woman Walks Away from Rehabilitation Program, Prompting Intense Search Efforts
California – The California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation was thrown into a frenzy on Sunday night as agents embarked on a search mission for Aleisha Schmitz, a 25-year-old woman who walked away from the Custody to Community Transitional Reentry Program (CCTRP). Moments after her departure, an alert from her monitoring device was triggered, prompting immediate action from officials.
Eyewitnesses reported seeing Schmitz getting into a gray or silver Mercedes-Benz outside the CCTRP at approximately 7:10 p.m. Sunday. Agents swiftly responded to the scene, while local law enforcement was also notified to aid in the search, according to corrections officials.
Schmitz had entered the program on July 7, 2022, from Los Angeles County, where she was serving a three-year sentence for second-degree robbery and hit-and-run causing injury to someone other than herself. Standing at 5 feet, 4 inches tall and weighing 197 pounds, Schmitz has brown hair, brown eyes, and a light complexion. She was last seen wearing a blue jacket and gray sweats, adding an air of mystery to her disappearance.
The Custody to Community Transitional Reentry Program (CCTRP) provides an alternative to prison for eligible inmates, allowing them to serve their sentences in the community while receiving rehabilitative services. These services encompass alcohol and drug recovery, employment support, education, housing assistance, family reunification, and social support, as highlighted by corrections officials.
Authorities did not disclose the specific Los Angeles County facility from which Schmitz walked away. However, the county houses a 60-bed facility located at 2756 James M. Wood Boulevard in Los Angeles and an 82-bed facility situated at 11121 Bloomfield Avenue in Santa Fe Springs.
As the search for Schmitz intensifies, law enforcement authorities are urging the public to remain vigilant. Individuals who spot Schmitz or possess any information regarding her whereabouts are encouraged to contact law enforcement immediately or dial 911.
The disappearance of Aleisha Schmitz has sent shockwaves through the system, leaving investigators and officials grappling with the ongoing search for her. The hope remains that she will be located swiftly and returned to custody, ensuring the safety and security of the community.
