Why Was Carrie Underwood’s Husband Mike Fisher Missing From The 2023 CMT Awards?

Carrie Underwood and her husband Mike Fisher have often graced the red carpet together at some of the most prestigious award shows in the world, such as the Grammys, CMA Awards, and American Music Awards. Whenever we see this country music star and her retired hockey player husband, they always look deeply in love.

Fisher is frequently seen standing proudly by his wife’s side at events like the CMT Music Awards. He accompanied Underwood at the CMT Awards in 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2018, and 2019.

However, as the 2023 CMT Awards took place in Austin, Texas, on April 2, Fisher was noticeably absent. What was the reason behind his absence?

Don’t jump to conclusions about a rift between Carrie Underwood and Mike Fisher. The truth is, Fisher was simply performing his duties as a dad that night, allowing his wife to attend the awards where she was nominated for Female Video of the Year and Video of the Year.

On the red carpet, when asked about her husband’s whereabouts, the “Hate My Heart” singer revealed, “The kids are under the control of my husband. In situations like this, he usually holds down the fort.” She even gave a shoutout to her three boys, implying they were watching her from home. Aww!

It’s important to note that the former hockey star probably didn’t have as easy access to the 2023 award ceremony as in previous years. Recently, the CMT Awards were held in Nashville, the home of country music, near Underwood and Fisher’s residence in Franklin, a Nashville suburb. However, in November 2022, it was announced that the award ceremony would be moved to Texas.

Despite this, Underwood seemed to be enjoying her time in Texas, dazzling in a rhinestone two-piece outfit that landed her on every Best Dressed list.

Carrie Underwood and Mike Fisher prefer to keep their two sons, Isaiah and Jacob Underwood, out of the spotlight. Last year, the “Jesus Take the Wheel” singer decided against taking the kids on tour with her to maintain their routine. Underwood told ET Canada, “This time, they aren’t coming with me. Our family places a high priority on my oldest’s education. We want them to live as normal a life as they can.”

According to Underwood, Fisher’s role as a hands-on father also allows her to concentrate on her career. “I’m also grateful. I have to make a small boast about my husband,” she said. “He’s got it. He has it locked away while I’m not there. My worries about forgotten lunches or undone laundry are never necessary.”

This dedication makes sense, considering Fisher’s eagerness to become a father. Before Isaiah was born in 2015, he expressed to The Tennessean his excitement about fatherhood. He mentioned that many people say you can’t understand the joy of having children until it happens. “I’ve been considering how I can be the best father I can be.”

While Fisher always wanted to be a loving father, Underwood initially had doubts about her ability to be a good mother. In the “Mike and Carrie: God and Country” documentary series, she admitted that raising children wasn’t

high on her priority list at first. “I’ve never had great success raising other people’s kids,” the country singer said. “I don’t think I ever considered marriage or having kids. On my own, I’ve always succeeded.” Fisher, however, had a different perspective.

“I grew up alongside three other siblings. And my mother and father were both wonderful. I think I just wanted something like that,” he explained. “I aspired to be the best father I could be, to emulate my father, and to find a wife who would mirror my mother. I wanted to raise a family while living in the country.”

Ultimately, everything worked out beautifully, as Underwood and Fisher now live in the country with their two children. Underwood’s view on parenthood was completely transformed when Isaiah was born. “It has altered who I am. Now I feel happier. Most of the time, I’m in a better mood,” she admitted to Redbook Magazine. “I’m completely smitten!”

In summary, Mike Fisher’s absence from the 2023 CMT Awards was due to his role as a dedicated father, supporting his family while Carrie Underwood attended the event. Their strong bond and Fisher’s commitment to their children underscore the values of love, support, and family in their lives.
