Gordon Ramsay finally opens up about how the loss of his son affected him and his family – ‘no book guides you through that’
Gordon Ramsay is undoubtedly one of the most famous names in the culinary world.
The TV chef, who has earned a total of 12 Michelin stars throughout his exceptional career and currently holds seven, has opened up for the first time about the loss of his unborn son Rocky.
He detailed the heartbreak he and his wife went through and explained how they navigated through those times of grief.
In an interview with People, Gordon, 56, said: “Losing Rocky was really tough, and then just being there and watching the trauma unfold, it’s just this life-changing moment…”
Speaking of his wife, the famous chef said, “Just watching the way she dealt with it — and opened up with other friends and women in close proximity who could give advice — she was incredible straight after that.”
He added: “There’s a lot of things that Tana’s done, that we wouldn’t be here today without that strength.”
Gordon and Tana tied the knot in 1996 and welcomed five children together, with their oldest, Megan, born in 1999, and their youngest, Oscar, in 2019. They also have fraternal twins Jack and Holly, and their daughter Matilda.
Back in 2016, the couple announced that Tana had a miscarriage at five months pregnant, but they didn’t reveal any further details.
However, in 2020, Tana spoke about her loss in an interview shortly after Chrissy Teigen publicly shared the news of her own miscarriage. What prompted Tana to open up about her miscarriage was the backlash Teigen faced from the public.
Tana showed her support for Teigen and praised her for her honesty.
“I found it very emotional and I thought she was amazing. When I read about her situation, I didn’t know the ins and outs, but certainly, a lot of it sounded incredibly similar to mine,” Tana said.
“It brings it all back and I think she was amazing for talking about it and posting the photos that she did,” she added.
Tana mentioned how she hated that people would tiptoe around the subject and pretend like it had never happened. She said, “I have to be honest, when it happened to me, I found it really hard when people would talk to me and not mention it because it was like it never happened.
“All I wanted to do was talk about it with friends, with family, with anyone who asked me about it because it was incredibly hard.”
She added, “You go from having a baby kicking inside of you to suddenly it’s not there, and it was a really hard experience.”
Her husband was by her side and showed immense support. “Gordon was amazing, and he’s always been one to talk about everything and he was very good at sort of talking it out of me and never making me feel that, ‘Oh, you know, maybe we shouldn’t talk about it’.”
In the recent interview with People, Gordon disclosed, “We wouldn’t have had Oscar had we not lost Rocky. There was no substitute – far from it – but it brought us a bond that you’d never experience in a normal situation.
“That’s the power of Tana,” he added. “Just watching the way she dealt with it – and opened up with other friends and women in close proximity who could give advice – she was incredible straight after that. Their kids “get a lot of strength from their mum.”
We are deeply sorry for the ordeal Gordon and Tana went through.
