Kevin Costner Confirms Major Personal News: ‘Great Sadness’

Kevin Costner, star of “Yellowstone,” and his wife of nearly 19 years, Christine Baumgartner, are getting divorced. The news came as a shock to Costner, who is currently busy working on his upcoming directorial project, “Horizon,” a western movie.

Sources close to the couple indicate that Christine Baumgartner, who filed for divorce, had allegedly warned her husband that she would leave him if he continued to be frequently absent due to work.

Reportedly, Costner’s frequent absences were difficult for Baumgartner, who wanted him to spend more time with their family in Santa Barbara. “During filming, Kevin is not around very much. His absence has been very hard for her,” a source stated. Another insider added that while Costner knew his wife was unhappy in their marriage, her filing for divorce still came as a shock to him.

“Christine doesn’t want him to immerse himself in another project. He has been obsessed with filming ‘Horizon’ since last year. She wasn’t happy about it,” another source reported.

“At times, his career has taken precedence over his home life,” another source mentioned. “All of this success and excitement over the new project probably diverted his attention away from his family more than he realized. Since it didn’t look like that would change and likely could get worse, it caused tension at home,” the source added.

The couple began dating in 2000 and married four years later, sharing three children together. This isn’t Costner’s first marriage. He was previously married to his college sweetheart, Cindy Silva. During his early acting career, Silva supported him by working various jobs, including playing Snow White at Disneyland. However, as his career advanced, she became uncomfortable with him filming intimate scenes with female co-stars. Rumors of alleged affairs also contributed to their eventual split.

Their divorce was contentious, leading one of Hollywood’s biggest stars to experience a prolonged period of loneliness, until he met Baumgartner. The couple initially dated and broke up because Costner didn’t want more children. The former model told him, “I’m going to wait for you, but not long. When you come to your senses, come back to me,” and he did.

Now that this marriage has also ended, a representative for the actor said, “It is with great sadness that circumstances beyond his control have led to Mr. Costner participating in a dissolution of marriage action. We ask that his, Christine’s, and their children’s privacy be respected as they navigate this difficult time,” the statement further read.

Reports indicate that Baumgartner has not filed for spousal support. Costner’s response was filed by Laura Wasser, stating, “Spousal support to be payable to petitioner pursuant to the terms of the parties’ Premarital Agreement,” suggesting there is a prenuptial agreement in place.
