While the project put a strain on her finances, Katie remained undeterred, fueled by the hope that there were still alternative paths to starting a family. It was during this time that she delved into the world of adoption. A letter from her new church about an upcoming seminar on foster children caught her attention, igniting a spark of curiosity and purpose within her.
Attending the seminar, Katie felt an undeniable connection to the cause. She sensed that this was her calling in life. Despite some nervousness, she wholeheartedly committed herself to the journey of foster care. On Mother’s Day in 2015, she took her first step by filling out an application form, unaware of the life-changing impact it would have.

The call informed Katie about a newborn baby boy who had been left behind at only four days old. Without hesitation, Katie expressed her willingness to provide him with a loving home. She went to the hospital, where she cradled the little boy in her arms for the first time. He became part of her life, affectionately known as “Baby Boy.”
This little angel, abandoned and exposed to substances during pregnancy, captured Katie’s heart. Without a name, she took him home, where he was showered with love and care. In time, she decided to name him Grayson, a name that held special significance to her.
Katie’s bond with Grayson grew stronger with each passing day. He had been living with her since he was only four days old. As they searched for his biological parents, their attachment deepened. However, their efforts proved fruitless, leading Katie to make the life-changing decision to legally adopt Grayson in May 2017, when he was 11 months old.
Little did Katie know that more surprises were in store for her small family. A month after finalizing Grayson’s adoption, she received another unexpected phone call. The call informed her of an abandoned newborn baby girl named Hannah who also shared the same hospital as Grayson. Born to a mother who had exposed her to drugs during pregnancy, Hannah needed a loving home.
Without hesitation, Katie welcomed Hannah into her home, creating a warm and loving environment for both Grayson and Hannah. The similarities between their stories were striking, and a DNA test confirmed their biological connection as half-siblings. It was an extraordinary twist of fate that reunited them.
The journey didn’t end there. A little over a year later, Katie received yet another life-changing call. She discovered that the birth mother had given birth to another baby boy, Jackson. Determined to keep the siblings together, Katie fostered Jackson and began the adoption process once again.
