According to park authorities, the 14-year-old boy fell gravely ill along the trail, eventually losing consciousness. In a valiant attempt to secure help, the stepfather, aged 31, undertook the arduous hike back to their vehicle, while the brother, aged 21, bravely endeavored to carry his ailing sibling towards the trailhead.

At approximately 7:30 p.m., a team of Park Rangers and U.S. Border Patrol Agents swiftly reached the location, only to discover the young victim lifeless along the trail, park officials sorrowfully recounted. A subsequent search operation was initiated to locate the stepfather, whose courageous journey to find aid had taken a tragic turn.

Tragically, park officials discovered the stepfather’s vehicle, overturned and perched precariously at the Boquillas Overlook around 8 p.m. local time.
