Teen charged after dispute led to fatal shooting of Jeffco father; toddler son critically injured
A 19-year-old teenager, Adaryon Coachman, has been charged with capital murder and first-degree assault after he allegedly shot a Jefferson County man and critically wounded one of the man’s children. The victim’s identity has not yet been released. Coachman is being held without bond in the Jefferson County Jail under Aniah’s Law.
The shooting took place just before 2 p.m. on Saturday in the public housing community in the 7800 block of Wisdom Way in northeastern Jefferson County. Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched on a report of multiple people shot. When they arrived, they found the 34-year-old father dead and his young son injured. Both had been shot multiple times.
According to Lt. Joni Money, the investigation shows that there had been an ongoing neighborhood dispute that resulted in an argument on Saturday afternoon. Coachman pulled a gun and fired numerous shots at the adult victim, also striking the child. Investigators marked multiple shell casings just outside an apartment unit, feet away from the housing community’s playground.
The charge against Coachman is a capital crime because the victim was killed in front of his children. The child who was injured in the shooting was taken to Children’s of Alabama where he was last listed in critical, but stable, condition.
The tragic incident has left the community in shock and mourning. The victim’s family and friends are devastated by the senseless act of violence that has taken the life of a loved one and left a child fighting for his life. The incident has also raised concerns about the safety of public housing communities and the need for better security measures to prevent such tragedies from happening in the future. (al.com)
The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office has assured the public that they are doing everything in their power to bring justice to the victim’s family and hold the perpetrator accountable for his actions. The investigation is ongoing, and more details are expected to emerge in the coming days.
In the meantime, the community is coming together to support the victim’s family and pray for the recovery of the injured child.
