Little girl, 5, ‘beaten to death by dad for wetting herself in car with body moved around for months’
In a heart-wrenching revelation, court documents have emerged, shedding light on the disturbing fate of Harmony Montgomery, a five-year-old girl who went missing under perplexing circumstances. The affidavit states that her own father, Adam Montgomery, allegedly beat her to death in a fit of rage after she wet herself inside the car they were residing in.
According to the police affidavit released on Tuesday, the distressing events unfolded on December 7 when Montgomery, 33, repeatedly struck Harmony in the head and face. The family, consisting of estranged ex-wife Kayla, Harmony, and Montgomery, were living in their Chrysler vehicle at the time. The affidavit further claims that Montgomery spent months concealing and relocating Harmony’s lifeless body before ultimately disposing of it.
The Montgomery family had fallen on hard times, having been evicted from their apartment in Manchester, New Hampshire, in November 2019. Testimony from Kayla, who was Harmony’s stepmother, reveals that Montgomery grew increasingly irate whenever his daughter expressed the need to use the bathroom and subsequently had accidents inside the car. According to Kayla’s account, Montgomery would unleash his anger by striking Harmony with a closed fist.
Tragically, on December 7, after yet another incident of wetting herself, Harmony faced a barrage of fatal blows. “I think I really hurt her this time. I think I did something,” Montgomery allegedly uttered, as shared by Kayla.
The couple only realized Harmony’s life had been extinguished hours later when their vehicle broke down. Montgomery then placed her lifeless body into a duffel bag, as detailed by Kayla.
In the following three months, investigators allege that Adam Montgomery moved the body from one container and location to another, concealing the truth. Kayla disclosed the unsettling details, including storing the remains in a friend’s car trunk, a hallway cooler in his mother-in-law’s apartment building, a ceiling vent in a homeless shelter, and even an apartment freezer. At one point, Kayla placed the body in a tote bag from a hospital maternity ward and casually transported it between her own young children in a stroller, unknowingly carrying the weight of tragedy.
During this haunting period, an employee at a now-closed restaurant reportedly saw the tote bag but never questioned Montgomery’s actions, assuming it was related to his children.
Harmony was reported missing in November 2021, nearly two years after her presumed death in Manchester. As of yet, her body remains unfound.
Adam Montgomery, who pleaded not guilty in October, is facing charges of second-degree murder, falsifying physical evidence, and abuse of a corpse. In a separate case, he was recently found guilty of six felony weapons charges, ensuring a lengthy prison sentence.
Meanwhile, Kayla Montgomery, who pleaded guilty to lying to a grand jury about her whereabouts on the day she claimed to have last seen Harmony, has been sentenced to at least 18 months in prison. She struck a plea deal with prosecutors, agreeing to cooperate and providing critical information. In exchange, charges related to falsifying information for welfare benefits and receiving stolen firearms were dropped.
This heartrending saga serves as a somber reminder of the immense responsibility and duty we have to protect the vulnerable. Harmony’s tragic fate underscores the urgent need for vigilance, empathy, and a commitment to creating a safe environment for all children.
