In a devastating incident that unfolded in the heart of South LA’s Manchester neighborhood, fire officials have confirmed the discovery of a deceased man within a commercial building consumed by a fierce inferno.
The Los Angeles Fire Department swiftly responded to the alarming situation at approximately 12:17 a.m., initially assuming they were tackling a routine rubbish fire. However, their expectations were shattered upon arrival, as they were confronted with a metal-clad structure completely engulfed in flames.
“Immediately, we transitioned into defensive mode,” shared Cpt. Ivan Carmona of the LAFD. “While battling the fire, our courageous firefighters made a grim discovery just ten feet away from the building’s entrance—an individual who had tragically lost their life.”
At this point, the cause of death remains shrouded in uncertainty. The Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner has been called upon to ascertain the deceased person’s identity and shed light on the circumstances surrounding their untimely demise.
According to Carmona, it has become customary for fire crews to undertake meticulous searches when responding to incidents within this neighborhood. “We have encountered similar situations before. Initially, we suspected that the fire may have been initiated by a homeless individual,” he revealed. “Consequently, our primary focus was to promptly search for anyone who might be present, knowing that this location was inhabited by some homeless residents.”
A staggering force of 83 firefighters was deployed to combat the blazing inferno, ultimately bringing the situation under control within a commendable span of 38 minutes.
While the primary purpose of the building is believed to be an auto body shop, housing several vehicles, the precise nature of the establishment is yet to be fully determined. Fire crews also discovered remnants of upholstery and materials resembling mattresses within the ravaged premises.
