Violent Weekend in Washington D.C. Leaves Four Dead, Police Investigating

In Washington, D.C. over the weekend, four individuals were fatally shot, prompting the Metropolitan Police Department to launch an investigation.

At 1:19 p.m., the first deadly shooting occurred on Sunday, in the 3300 block of D Street SE, where the victims were found inside a residence. Shortly after, a person of interest who was familiar with the victims was taken into custody, and a weapon was discovered on site.

Then, two hours later, the second double shooting was reported in the 5200 block of Sheriff Road NE, resulting in two additional deaths.

Assistant Chief Andre Wright of the D.C. police stated that “We believe that this particular event is targeted, in that the two individuals were standing out in front of the courtyard,” and went on to explain that authorities are engaging in conversations with residents door-to-door, and are relying on cameras to gather information.

No information on suspects in the latter shooting has been released at this time.

The weekend was violent in the D.C. region, with one man killed near Audi Field during a D.C. United game, and three others shot in separate but linked incidents in Southeast that same morning.

Assistant Chief Wright conveyed that “This must not stand. This is a great city, a great District, and we’re not about to turn over our freedoms or our safety or the safety of our loved ones… over a few bad actors that think that they can just do what they want to. That’s not going to happen.”

Anyone who has any information about the events is asked to contact the Metropolitan Police Department at 202-727-9099 or text 50411.
