In a horrifying incident that has left the community reeling, a 24-year-old mother from Burkburnett, Texas, Sara Anne Woody, is facing a whopping 30 criminal charges, including 27 counts of child abuse and 2 counts of witness tampering, for subjecting her two young sons, aged 7 and 12, to unspeakable torture. The charges come with a staggering bond of $3 million.
According to reports from the Wichita Falls Times Record News, Woody’s brutal punishment tactics included making her children lick dirty toilet rims when she suspected them of lying to her, hitting them in their genitals with a belt, and even burning their tongues with a charcoal grill lighter. Her children were subjected to these inhumane punishments whenever she suspected them of lying.
One of the boys was admitted to the hospital with a lip injury, which led to the authorities being notified of the horrific abuse they had endured. Furthermore, whenever Woody accused her children of stealing food, she forced them to consume a sickening concoction containing apple cider vinegar, causing them to throw up.
In interviews at Wichita Falls’ Patsy’s House Child Advocacy Center, the victims revealed that Woody had also made them do push-ups and repeatedly hit them with a paddle or tent pole if they fell to the ground.
Detective Donald Osborn, who has been working on the case since March, described the 12-year-old boy as being “closer to 7 or 8 because he is so small.”
Woody’s husband, Jonathan Darrell Woody, was also arrested and charged with three counts of child endangerment and one count of witness tampering. He is being held on a bail of $550,000. He appeared to be aware of what his wife was doing but did nothing to stop it, leading to charges of witness tampering.
The horror of this situation is almost beyond words. It’s hard to comprehend what could drive a mother to inflict such unbearable torture on her own children.
