A man suspected of plowing his car through a group of people and assaulting a woman has been apprehended by Pennsylvania police. The incident occurred during an event to honor victims of a recent fire. The suspect drove through the crowd, killing one person and injuring 17 others, then fled the scene. A heavy police presence was reported at the bar where the incident occurred, and investigations into the incidents are ongoing.
The Pennsylvania State Police issued a statement about the incident, “On Saturday, at approximately 6:15 p.m. Pennsylvania State Police Bloomsburg received a call to assist Berwick Police Department with a vehicle that drove through a crowd at a community event on West 2nd Street, Berwick Borough, Columbia County.”
According to WNEP-TV, the event was intended to raise funds for families who had lost loved ones in a recent fire. The suspect was later found in Luzerne County, where police received a call about a man assaulting a woman. Upon arrival, they found the woman dead, and the suspect was taken into custody.
